How to play the Chicago White Sox roster timeline game

Chicago White Sox players are on every card, sorted by the year each one joined the club. You begin with one player placed and his year visible. Each new card shows a name and a position such as right fielder or catcher, and you slot it into a gap. A good placement turns up the year; get it wrong and he still goes to his correct spot, but you lose one of three lives.

The White Sox were an original American League club, and the deck starts right at the beginning on the South Side. The early teams are well covered, the long middle thins out, and the deck gets busier again with the more recent contenders. A lot of cards are pitchers. Players who left and came back count from their first spell with the club, which catches people out.

Want a longer game? On the deck tree you can tick this deck alongside any other one measured in release years and dates, and they shuffle into a single timeline together.
