About the comic book character timelines
Every card here is a character, dated by the cover year of their first comic appearance. Marvel character debuts has 40 heroes and villains, DC character debuts has 39, Batman villains collects 30 of Gotham's rogues, and X-Men and mutants covers 30 members and foes from the mutant books. The cover-date rule matters, since comics usually reach stands before the date printed on the front. Each card goes down by itself, and a wrong placement costs a life.
Readers who know which creative teams built which characters will do well, because debuts tend to arrive in bursts around a famous writer or artist's run. Movie fans can be misled, since a character who became a star on screen may have started out decades earlier as a minor face in someone else's book. Start with DC or Marvel for a broad sweep, then try Batman villains, where many names sit close together.
