How the Chicago Cubs roster timeline works

The cards are Chicago Cubs players, and the order is the year each one joined the club. One player starts out on the timeline with his year visible. You draw a card at a time, each showing a name and a position like first baseman or relief pitcher, and choose a gap for it. If the gap is right, the year shows. If it's wrong, he still moves to his true spot, and you're down one of three lives.

The Cubs go back to the founding of the National League, so the oldest cards here come from the game's earliest days, when the club wore a different name. From there the deck spreads evenly across the franchise's long history, without one era taking over.
