How to play the NHL first overall picks timeline
Line up the players taken first overall in the NHL draft, ordered by the year they were picked. The club that selected each one is printed under his name. One pick begins on the timeline with its year in view. Place every new card into a gap among those already down; get it right and the year shows, get it wrong and the player still moves to his real spot but costs you one of three lives.
Generational centers, franchise defensemen and a few picks who never panned out all mix together here. A club that has since moved or folded can help you date a card, but several franchises held the top pick in very different eras. Most of these players were drafted as teenagers, so their draft year sits well before the peak you picture when you read the name.
