Order by the year of the Tony Awards ceremony at which each show won Best Musical. You place all 40 cards on one timeline, one at a time. You start with three lives, and ten right in a row wins a lost one back.
Each card is a Broadway show that won the Tony Award for Best Musical, and you order them by the year of the ceremony where it took the prize. The composer, songwriting team or writer behind the score is printed under the title. One winner starts out on the line with its year shown. Every card after that needs a gap: decide which shows it came after and which it came before. Correct placements show the year; mistakes still put the show in its real spot but take a life, and losing all three ends the game.
The winners run from the golden age of the book musical through concept shows and the British megamusical invasion to rock scores, jukebox shows and hip-hop. Some songwriters won more than once, so the name under the title narrows things down but rarely settles them. Each ceremony honors the season just ended, so a show is dated by the spring after its opening night. Film versions are the big trap: many of these musicals are best known from movies made years or even decades later.
