Order by the year each film was released. You place all 40 cards on one timeline, one at a time. You start with three lives, and ten right in a row wins a lost one back.
Each card is a holiday film, with the director printed beneath the title, and you sort them by release year. One movie starts on the timeline with its year shown. Every new card asks whether that film came out before, after or between the ones already down. Answer correctly and the year comes up; answer wrongly and the film is moved to its real place, and you lose a life. Three of those and the run is over.
Studio-era classics, holiday horror, family comedies, action movies set at Christmas and streaming releases all share the line. Directors help if you know their careers, and a couple of names appear more than once. Remakes and fresh versions of old stories are the classic trap, since the title alone won't always tell you which version you're holding.
Want a longer game? On the deck tree you can tick this deck alongside any other one measured in release years and dates, and they shuffle into a single timeline together.
Here are 28 of the 40 cards you might be dealt, with 12 more in the deck. Their values stay hidden until you place them.
