Order by the cover-date year of each character's first comic appearance. You place all 40 cards on one timeline, one at a time. You start with three lives, and ten right in a row wins a lost one back.
Each card is a Marvel hero, villain or team, with a short description of who they are under the name, and the order is the cover-date year of their first comic appearance. The timeline opens with one character in place, year showing. Fit each new card into a gap. Get the gap right and the year appears; get it wrong and the character still moves to the right spot, but you lose a life. You have three, and ten correct placements in a row win one back.
The deck reaches from the wartime comics of the company's earliest days through the burst of creation that built the modern universe, then on through the street-level heroes, cosmic sagas and antiheroes that followed. That middle burst is crowded, with many famous names arriving close together. Movie fame is a poor guide: characters who became stars on screen were often minor figures in the comics for a long time.
Want a longer game? On the deck tree you can tick this deck alongside any other one measured in release years and dates, and they shuffle into a single timeline together.
Here are 28 of the 40 cards you might be dealt, with 12 more in the deck. Their values stay hidden until you place them.
