How the alternative debut albums timeline works
Every card is an alternative act, printed with the title of its first album beneath the name. Your goal is to order them by the year of that debut. The timeline opens with one act placed, its year showing. Each card that follows goes into the gap you pick. A right answer reveals the year; a wrong answer moves the card to its true spot and uses up one of three lives.
It moves through new wave and post-punk, college rock, grunge, Britpop and the indie bands of the new century. The Seattle bands are the obvious danger zone: they broke through at almost the same moment but released their first records at different points. A band's breakthrough album is not always its debut, so read the album title before you trust your memory.
