How the heavy metal debut albums timeline game works
Each card is a metal band, with the title of its first album printed below the name, and you order the bands by when that debut was released. A single band is placed first, its year visible. Each new card goes into a gap before, between or after the bands already placed. If you're right, the year shows; if you're wrong, the band moves to its real position and you lose one of three lives.
The bands cover the genre's whole lineage: the founders, the British new wave, thrash, glam, power and death metal, prog, industrial, nu metal and the newer heavyweights. Many debuts sound nothing like the records that made the band famous, so trust the album title more than the band's reputation. The thrash and death metal years are packed tightly, which is where most lives go.
