How The Wire episode timeline game works

Each card is a memorable episode of The Wire, plus a one-line hint about what happens in it, and you sort them by the date each first aired. One episode is on the timeline from the start, its air date visible. Place every new card in the gap you think is right, among the episodes already laid down. Correct placements show the date; incorrect ones still put the episode in its true spot but take one of three lives.

Each season widens the frame to another corner of Baltimore, so the setting in a hint tells you a lot: the docks, the classroom, the street corners, the newsroom and City Hall all get their turn. Working out the order of those chapters is the real test. Inside each one, the episodes build slowly toward a reckoning, and the middle ones blur together even for devoted viewers.
