How to play the IMDb Top 250 rank order game

Films from IMDb's Top 250 make up this deck, with the director and release year printed under each title, and you're ordering them by their position on that list, number one first. One film starts on the line in its place. For each new card, decide whether it ranks higher or lower than the films already down and choose the gap. Get it right and its rank appears; get it wrong and it still drops into its true position, costing you one of three lives.

The list mixes Hollywood classics, crime epics, anime, foreign-language dramas, silent comedy and modern blockbusters. The very top is familiar to many film fans, but the long middle is tough, since so many acclaimed films are separated by tiny margins in user ratings. The director and year won't tell you the rank on their own. This is a list built from user votes, so popularity matters as much as reputation.
