Order by the year each series first aired in Japan. You place all 34 cards on one timeline, one at a time. You start with three lives, and ten right in a row wins a lost one back.
Each card is an anime series in which the hero is pulled into, trapped in or reborn into another world: fantasy kingdoms, video game realms and stranger places. The animation studio is printed under every title, and you sort the shows by the year they first aired on Japanese television. A single series begins on the line with its year showing. Slide each new card into a gap. A right answer reveals the year; a wrong one still sets the series in its true spot and costs you one of your three lives.
The idea is older than its recent flood of shows suggests, and a handful of earlier series came long before the genre had a name. The newer end is packed tight, with many shows only a year or two apart, so close calls are common. Sequel seasons don't count here, only the first broadcast. Light novel adaptations dominate the later cards, and a studio you recognize can hint at the era.
Want a longer game? On the deck tree you can tick this deck alongside any other one measured in release years and dates, and they shuffle into a single timeline together.
Here are 28 of the 34 cards you might be dealt, with 6 more in the deck. Their values stay hidden until you place them.
