Order by the year each manga began serialization. You place all 40 cards on one timeline, one at a time. You start with three lives, and ten right in a row wins a lost one back.
Every card is a landmark manga series, with its creator printed under the title, and you sort them by the year each one began serialization. A single series opens the timeline with its starting year visible. For each new card, decide where it slots in among the ones already placed. Choose correctly and the start year comes into view; choose badly and the series still takes its proper place, at the cost of one of your three lives. String ten correct placements together and you earn a life back, to a maximum of three.
The list stretches from postwar newspaper strips and the pioneers of story manga through the great boom in boys' weekly magazines to the hits of the streaming age. A handful of creators appear more than once, which helps if you know the order of their careers. The trap is longevity: some series ran for a very long time and are tied in your memory to recent anime, so they feel younger than they are, while others were adapted long after they started.
Want a longer game? On the deck tree you can tick this deck alongside any other one measured in release years and dates, and they shuffle into a single timeline together.
Here are 28 of the 40 cards you might be dealt, with 12 more in the deck. Their values stay hidden until you place them.
