Order by typical lifespan, shortest first. You place all 23 cards in the right order, one at a time. You start with three lives, and ten right in a row wins a lost one back.
Each card names an animal, with its group printed underneath: mammal, bird, reptile, fish, insect or mollusc. Your job is to rank them by how long they typically live in the wild, measured in years, shortest life first. One animal starts on the line with its lifespan showing. Pick a gap for every new card. A correct placement reveals the number of years; a wrong one still slides the animal into its true position, but you lose one of your three lives.
The spread is huge, from creatures that are gone almost as soon as they arrive to animals that were alive before anyone now living was born. Insects are counted from the moment they become winged adults, which is why some look shockingly brief. Size is a decent guide but not a reliable one, since cold water and slow metabolisms stretch life out. Wild animals face predators and hard winters, so many live far less time than the same species would in a zoo.
Here are 23 of the 23 cards you might be dealt. Their values stay hidden until you place them.
