Order by the year each mascot debuted. You place all 50 cards on one timeline, one at a time. You start with three lives, and ten right in a row wins a lost one back.
Meet the cast of the commercial break: cartoon animals, cereal box heroes, puppets, clowns and insurance salespeople. Every card names a mascot and prints its brand below, and you line them up by the year each one debuted. One mascot begins on the timeline with its year in view. Choose a gap for each new card. Correct placements reveal the year. A wrong placement still moves the mascot to its real spot on the line, but it costs you one of your three lives.
Mascots age well, which is the trouble. Many get redrawn and modernized, so one that looks fresh may have been selling things for generations. The cereal aisle forms a thick cluster, and fast food characters tend to travel in packs. Later cards shift from drawn characters to puppets, computer animation and actors playing a part. Ask yourself whether you first met a mascot on a package, in a Saturday morning ad or during a football game, and let that guide you.
Want a longer game? On the deck tree you can tick this deck alongside any other one measured in release years and dates, and they shuffle into a single timeline together.
Here are 28 of the 50 cards you might be dealt, with 22 more in the deck. Their values stay hidden until you place them.
