How the Focus Features films timeline game works

Every card is a Focus Features release, with the director printed under the title, and you sort them by year of release. At the start, one film is already on the line with its year visible. Each new card goes into a gap you choose among the films already placed. A correct pick reveals the year. A wrong pick still sends the film to its real spot, but it costs one of three lives.

Focus is a specialty label, so the deck leans toward literary adaptations, period pieces, auteur dramas and awards contenders, with a few genre films and animated features along the way. Some cards come from the labels it grew out of, which pushes the deck's reach back further than you might expect. Period dramas are the main trap, because a film set long ago tells you nothing about when it was made.
