How the pepper heat ranking game works

Every card is a pepper or something made from peppers, ranked by its Scoville heat rating from mildest to hottest. The line under the name says whether it's a pepper or a sauce, and where it comes from. One card begins on the line with its rating showing. Pick a gap for each new one. Call it correctly and the rating is revealed. Miss, and the card still lands where it belongs, but you lose one of three lives.

Peppers vary from plant to plant, so most figures here are midpoints of a published range. The scale climbs fast, and each step up is a real jump in pain. Grocery store favorites fill the lower half, where a bottle on the diner table is easy to confuse with a fresh chili from the produce aisle. Further up come the record holders that growers handle with gloves on. If you've eaten it without crying, it probably belongs low.
