Order by the year Time magazine named each honoree its Person of the Year. You place all 40 cards on one timeline, one at a time. You start with three lives, and ten right in a row wins a lost one back.
Each card is someone, or something, that Time magazine named its Person of the Year, with a line under the name on why. Sort them by the year of the honor. One honoree begins on the timeline with its year showing. Then you take each card and slot it where you think it falls. A good placement reveals the year; a poor one still moves the card to its true spot but uses up one of your three lives. String ten good placements together and you earn a lost life back.
The honorees run from the magazine's first picks to the present, taking in presidents, dictators, activists, tech founders and a few abstract choices like groups, machines and ideas. Several people were chosen more than once, and the line under the name tells you which time the card means. Election winners recur often, so knowing who won what is a strong guide. The non-human and collective honorees are the ones most likely to throw you.
Want a longer game? On the deck tree you can tick this deck alongside any other one measured in release years and dates, and they shuffle into a single timeline together.
Here are 28 of the 40 cards you might be dealt, with 12 more in the deck. Their values stay hidden until you place them.
