Order by the year each song was released. You place all 45 cards on one timeline, one at a time. You start with three lives, and ten right in a row wins a lost one back.
These cards are the songs of fast guitars, big choruses and heartfelt lyrics: skate-punk singalongs, emo breakup songs and the occasional black-clad rock opera. Each card shows the song title and the band. You put them in order by the year each one was released. The game starts you off with one song on the line and its year visible. Slide every new card into a gap. A right guess shows the year, while a wrong one drops the song into its true place and uses up one of your three lives.
A few punk forerunners set the scene before the genre's pop-minded boom on radio and music television. The middle of the deck is crowded, and plenty of bands released several hits in quick succession, so the sound of a record and a band's career arc are your best clues. A couple of later revival songs show the style never really went away.
Want a longer game? On the deck tree you can tick this deck alongside any other one measured in release years and dates, and they shuffle into a single timeline together.
Here are 28 of the 45 cards you might be dealt, with 17 more in the deck. Their values stay hidden until you place them.
