Order by the year each became a state. You place all 50 cards on one timeline, one at a time. You start with three lives, and ten right in a row wins a lost one back.
Each card is one of the 50 US states, printed on its own with no extra clue. You order them by the year each became a state, and for the original 13 that means the year it ratified the Constitution. One state goes down first with its year showing. Choose a gap for each new card. When you're right the year appears; when you're wrong, the state still lands in its correct spot, and you're down one of three lives.
Plenty of states share a year, and a tie counts as correct, so you only need the right neighborhood. Geography helps but won't carry you all the way, because the map did not fill in as a tidy line, and some states joined well before or after their neighbors. War and politics shaped a handful of admissions. School-day memories of the original colonies are useful too, though their exact ratification order is harder than it looks.
Want a longer game? On the deck tree you can tick this deck alongside any other one measured in release years and dates, and they shuffle into a single timeline together.
Here are 28 of the 50 cards you might be dealt, with 22 more in the deck. Their values stay hidden until you place them.
